Get Personal

The Married One

How ironic that I am writing my Get Personal thoughts today. It’s my (opps, our) anniversary – married 20 years! Ron calls his life with me BB – he had no life, “Before Barbara.” We all come into relationships with “baggage.” It’s how we shift the contents that makes for a smooth ride. How do you keep the marriage alive? The spark, the romance. We spend millions of dollars keeping ourselves looking young, fit & desirable. We want to be swept off our feet! We don’t want a vacuum cleaner as an anniversary present! So men just humor us -chill the glasses, order flowers, wine, dine with us and light candles! Sweep us off our feet! It will work. At least until the next anniversary when you have to do it all over again!

The Single One…

Flying single to events is bad enough – but drinking alone could be the final demise. How many events are reasonable to attend alone each year? People don’t know where to seat the singles or what to do with them. Do you dance with your girlfriends’ husband (that’s always well received), or alone, or attempt to spot the only “unattached guy” and intercept him for a dance. His girlfriend is probably on a business trip in Asia so he’s only temporarily available for the night. So while the married girls always want to think about maintaining the spark – the single girls need to always think about igniting it with someone new!!!
