Travel – Hotels as Art
PARIS
How do you select a hotel? Usually by location, price or availability. Now let’s add one more reason to stay somewhere… who designed it and what it looks like! Just as art influences fashion, fashion influences hotel design. Fashion is not just about clothing – it’s about the way we choose to live. Let’s go on tour around the world to the most unusual, exotic, humorous and beautiful hotel designs.
Does being married or single influence Where2Stay? Do you want your hotel hip & modern (perfect for singles (S)) or quiet & elegant (perfect for married (M))? Sometimes you want to “marry” the two (MS).
Hotel Le Bellechasse– Designed by Fashion Designer Christian Lacroix – This over the top interior is like stepping into one of his designs. You won’t get much sleep for who can sleep with walls looking like this? This 4 star hotel on a quiet street in the 7th Arrondissemont strikes the perfect balance between calm and riotous. A perfect backdrop for your hot date or to stimulate your marriage! Wear your see thru Robert Rodriguez skirt to be part of the art. (MS)

BERLIN
nHow Berlin – Designed by Interior Designer Karim Rashid. You can’t judge a book by its cover. A hotel almost falling off the roof has spawned a new generation of hotels. Guests enter a lively, offbeat world designed by a NY based interior designer. This hotel comes with its own recording studio, keyboard room service – flawlessly blending their theme of fashion, music, art and design. Choose your room color overlooking the Spree River. Color coordinate with your Fendi multi colored slingbacks. (S)
NEW YORK
Gramercy Park Hotel – Designed by Artist Julian Schnabel. With their motto ” It’s all about you” (when isn’t it?) you know that service is over the top. A complete facelift by Julian Schnabel created a Renaissance revival of opulence, bold colors and artwork by such luminaries as Basquiat, Damien Hurst and Keith Haring. Dine at Danny Meyer’s Italian Mailino, dress as if it’s a first date to get into exclusive Rose Bar and feel special unlocking the private gate of Gramercy Park. Rooms lovely albeit small, but who cares? It’s all about the address! (MS)
