Paris – Travel From Louis to Marc
They thought it wouldn’t last – pairing Marc Jacobs twisted avant-garde mind with the conservatism and elegance of Louis Vuitton. Like most marriages, opposites attract. Think of fashion in 1854- women were required to change their outfits 7 times a day so steamer trunks were actually needed! Ballgowns, crinolines & tuille – Now try getting that on United. The exhibit parallels the fashion process complete with tumbler – flashing pictures, music, videos, flying mannequins and caged fashion.
Does being married or single influence Where2Stay? Do you want your hotel hip & modern or do you prefer a quiet and romantic hotel? Sometimes you might want to “marry” the two. You will see an M (married), S (single), or an MS, (married/single) next to each hotel.
Park Hyatt Paris Vendome – How do you top perfection? This modern palace hotel exudes understated luxury. From its outstanding location overlooking Rue de la Paix to the guestrooms (spacious) & the perfect service this hotel is worth skipping your three star meal for. Rated one of the top 50 hotels in the world. (MS)
Hotel Brighton– No better location anywhere in Paris. Facing the Tuilleries, across from the Louvre. A classic 19th century building, modest in furnishings (but large bathrooms) is THE find. Book the 4th floor corner room with 3 French doors that open to your private balcony w/a panoramic view including pyramid & Eiffel Tower. Reasonably priced for the location. (MS)
Le Pavillon des Lettres – This cozy, romantic boutique hotel near Place de Madeline on the Right Bank. Each of the 26 rooms named after a well known poet or author, a perfect Parisian twist. Lay in bed and read excerpts from authors on your walls! (M)
Apostrophe Hotel – Every room a different theme. Hotel fits right into their artistic, edgy left bank location. Overlook room size in exchange for the cool factor and incredible service. (S)
Hotel Pont Royal – classic hotel in the 7th, rooms large and airy by Parisian standards and world class Joel Robuchon downstairs. You pay for this privilege but worth it! (MS)
Where2Eat
Our favorite small bistros: Spring, Chez George, La Regalade, Fable de la Fountain (2 stars) & Bistro Beaujolais. Everyone a hit!
Part of the Louis Vuitton exhibit. Lets fill those bags!
Where2Shop
Paris is a shoppers paradise but we found two standouts. Leather maker Pourchet, in business since 1903, makes affordable purses. True value. On the opposite end of the spectrum Vignes on St Germain de Pres carries leather goods personally hand made by the owner. Pick your skins, color and size.
