Egypt

Africa, Fashion, Home, Travel

I’m exhausted by this trip and I’m not on it. Too much adventure, nature, and history for me. I’ll take the big city with superficial shopping all day. Barbara’s historical advenure continues: How to pack for a two night side trip to Egypt.Should be an easy pack? No! Need a Valley of the Kings outfit, need King Tuts Tomb Couture: prepare for seriously hot & dusty. (Sweaty & Still Seductive)

  • Big hat, lots of sunscreen, Easy Spirit Shoes which work all over the world. We love Easy Spirit Macy’s SF (we need stock in this company)
  • Need nothing more than t- shirts and baggy cotton pants. Comfort is the fashion. Pity the poor local women and men who wear full length gowns.
  • Black is the color for married ladies showing respect and protection. Tip for you Sandy, hot pink means you’re available!!!  Oh Yea, it’s my favorite color how perfect!

  • Travel Tips: From the Temples of Luxor and Karnak, to the Valley of the Kings & Tut’s Tomb once in a lifetime experience.
  • Don’t miss this but consider passing the nightime light and sound show at Karnak Temple. (Sounds like twilight at Disneyland)
  • Valley of the Kings: Hidden underground tombs of the Pharaohs Karnak Temple: Most important sanctuary of Ancient Egypt with ten temples, built over hundreds of years by a succession of ancient kings each attempting to outdo the other. (Does claustrophobia enhance the experience?)

NOT XO JET

Felt like Laura Croft in Tomb Raiders boarding the Petroleum Transport Service “private” plane to Cairo. Turned out to be a low speed, low altitude 4 prop plane older than RW! Expected caviar and champagne!  ANKH- SCIOUS in Cairo.  A 747 is too small for me would have needed a valium drip on that plane.

Cross your Chest

Checked into the Cairo Four Seasons, 28th floor with sweeping sunset views of the city and the Nile. The Ankh, the ancient key to life also symbolizes Egypt’s new awakening and revolution. People seem optimistic for the future. Expected long drive to the Pyramids but can see them from the highway. An easy walk from Pizza Hut (didn’t realize that Pizza Hut had such a world presence.)

Romancing the Stone

The Sphinx stands guard over the Great Pyramids of Giza. Nothing prepares you for the reality. Beware: Nothing can protect you from the aggressive vendors selling everything from scarves, alabaster, baseball caps, shirts, & trinkets. Saying no is only an invitation for them to show you something else. Finally came up with “Bought that,”(which you probably already did.) Best advice look invisible & keep walking. It sounds like Market Street in SF.

Wear2where Fashion in SF

It may not be as exotic as Egypt. But our favorite city has unique shopping opportunities as a result of its cultural diversity. Think Chinatown, North Beach, the Mission…

Wigs Anyone?

Do you need a wig, hair exptensions, 0r hair products? Beauty Supply Warehouse 1440 Fillmore has the most comprehensive hair products imaginable – and trust me it’s a cultural experience in that location.

Need beaded clutches – they look like Judith Leiber – not knock offs – SF designer. “Canton Bazaar”  located on Grant Street in Chinatown.

Carlos Shoe Service 343 3rd Street SF endures all my shoe challeneges. View  Michael Kors Shoes I re-designed, purchased at Jeremy’s 2nd Street SF. Removed platform & lowered heel to a mere 4 inch. Also wearing Row Leggings, long sleeved white turtleneck (Loehman’s) lightweight cashmere sweater (my uniform.) Clearly not as fashion chic as Barbara is looking these days!!!

Shoe Slut for Sure!

Barb, don’t tell me you’re living in the Middle East otherwise this will be us. No plunging V necklines, No backless tops, No mini skirts, No Heels – I’m out!!!

Dubai: Sheik Chic

Asia, Home, Travel

How Chic is too Chic? Sexy, Sophisticated & Extravagant. Gold infused high rise buildings surrounded by an endless series of sand dunes. Dubai A true land of contrasts. Desert safaris, Arabian adventures, dune bashing, just like a James Bond Movie. Barb is our new Bond Girl!! Imagine climbing into 4 wheel vehicles, engines revving, flying up and down dunes ending with a crimson sunset. What awaits you ultimately is an Arabian feast. I think it would look similar to having dinner at Sandy’s house. Imagine lying on low couches, in the middle of the desert, a blackened sky & smoking a hookah.  A henna tattoo completes the picture. How very sexy. What should I do to my body before you return? ( A new fashion accessory for us) Definitely less expensive than a new purse.

The tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa, ascend 124 stories instantly  Actually that’s all it takes. Views are astoundiing. I think it looks like LA.

A birthday clebration for RW. Started at the 360 Bar, at the end of a long pier of the Jumperiah Beach Hotel. Climb the stairs, sit outside on white couches with views of the Burj al Arab directly in front of you. Followed by The Burj al Arab & private tour of the presidental suite (3500 sq feet). Just like camping.

Barb was hoping for a pirate adventure. Perhaps it’s the one eyed pirate patch that’s alluring. Pirate ships were sighted from her cruise ship. I”m actually wondering how how many cocktails you had. Once you actually hit the open seas and are “cruisin” what do you wear to look chic?

Dress by Alexander McQueen always works!

Cruise Attire a mystery. Barb packs everything in her closet just in case and tells me how well everything rolls into a ball. What you wear of course depends on where you go. You might not need bathing suits in the Antartic (unless with heels for an indoor look) but there are some basic wear2where rules.

  • Clothes to just hang around your room. Baggy, soft, buy a size larger
  • Workout attire – Only Barb works out, I circle the buffet line eating mashed potatoes.  LuLuLemon, Stella McCartney for workout
  • Clothes & shoes for excursions: climbing pyramids, walking ancient ruins you l get dirty, sweaty & spill. Wash and dry required. Is that even a fabric?
  • Shoes- forget fashion, go for comfort. This would be the dealbreaker for me. Everyone else will be wearing those same Teva  Sandels or sneakers.
  • Nightime: The hardest to pack. What is the defintion of formal nights?  Means anything goes. Bring a strapless cocktail dress, short. Black cashmere dress & glittery belt are another nightime option. People will wear long but why? It’s not the high school prom. For men they recommend a tux (are you kidding!) bring a dark suit & tie.
  • Shoes for night- Heels how high can you go while taking Dramamine!
  • Informal – less dressy – Chic dress to accessorize or pants & sparkly top.
  • Casual attire no torn or faded jeans, flip flops or t-shirts. Sounds like a school dress code. Capris, tight tops, strappy sandals, cashmere wrap
  • Sexy lingerie- you are on vacation go for it!

I’d Cruise Around in This

Head up to the Sky Bar (reservation’s required) Shyan; master mixologist will create a cocktail to your order from his moveable cart of endless ingredients. Barb’s “Thai Twist” involved passion fruit, pineapple, lime juice & leaves, vodka and flaming rosemary sprigs. If you want the Barb special potion request it in the comment section and she will send you the recipe. I don’t have any recipes so don’t ask me!

Thai It On!
Bond Girl Come Back!

A girl must eat so it’s off to the new Armani Hotel to dine in their fashionable Italian Restaurant. Just like Armani’s clothing everything is understated and elegant. All designed by Mr. Armani himself, silverware, dishes, & décor. What’s better than food & fashion? Starts with an S ends with X.

Krizia silk satin roushed gown

Clearly this photo has nothing to do with Dubai – but I just learned to edit photos so wear2where can go to a whole new level. I can now remove any unliked body part. If you want my latest photo tips happy to share!!!

Las Vegas

Home, North America, Travel

Do You Fantasize?

No I am not referring to that TV show “Fantasty Island” but to the one place you can forget your problems, your reality, and escape… Las Vegas. Where to stay while accumulating your chips and cocktails ? City Center

The main attraction is City Center itself, designed by architectural wonder Daniel Libeskind, with its jagged edged angular shaped mall aptly named Crystal. It lives up to its name by having every luxurious brand known store represented there.

Sleepless in Vegas?

Aria Hotel – modern, serene, Asian feel, floor to ceiling windows, great value…hot hot hot nightclub called Haze. Cutting edge space, 20 foot lighted walls, laser show, and performance platform. Unbelievable!

The Food Network

Go to Julian Serrano, ex chef of Masa, for Spanish tapas complete with Spanish lessons over loudspeaker in bathroom (brush up on you bi-lingual skills), Fish Story (owned by our own Michael Mina) Jean George for steak and the best Patisserie by Jean Phillippe.

Hot Hot Spots

Mandarian Oriental a peaceful oasis among the chaos. I need that kind of harmony in my home. No gambling, cool bar scene and Pierre Garnier Twist for dining. No ticket to Paris needed!

Cosmopolitan, only hotel with terraces ( watch those martinis) a pulsating younger vibe. A three story chandelier of dripping crystals encapsulates cocktail bars inside for the ultimate bling, to go with your bubbles. Smart move all dining on 3rd floor. Indulge

  • Blue Ribbon Sushi
  • Comma Ca
  • Estiatorio Milos
  • Jaleo
  • Scarpetta

Shimmer & Shine While You Dine

Mixed Lots of Favorite Designers

Glitz is all around you. Bring up the shine factor so you reflect against the chandelier. Accessories always make the impact. A beaded top by Stella Mc Cartney is an ultimate accessory. Fashion tip jeweled tank tops available at Target, perfect with Joe’s Jeans,  Loubitan High Heels a must. A colorful beaded or sequined bag goes from jeans to late night. Metallic shimmery eye shadow by Channel is just the added punch you need, just dont wear  all at once. Have one piece make the statement. Barbara and I  put on our shortest, tightest, shiniest outfits and went late night clubbing. We thought we nailed it until we observed the “ovary dress!” Young pretty girls standing on top of tables, dancing above mens’ heads slugging from the vodka botttle flashing their very short thigh high look. Clubbing attire gives you lots of latitude for fashion fantasy.

Back to Life Back to Reality

Hotly anticipated opening from Real Restaurant Group is chef Robert Price’s Bar Bocce, a new pizza restaurant in Sausalito complete with outside firepits, bocce ball court, & stunning water views. Serving champagne, 12 wines, specialty beers on tap, & a 4 thousand pound brick oven that had to be craned in. With meatball sliders, shaved artichoke & fennel salad, eggplant parmesan and of course pizza, there is something for everyone. Are you ready for dungeness crab, meyer lemon & avocado creme fraiche pizza, Robert’s creation. Only in San Francisco!  Get your arm ready and steady for bocce ball.
